How can my son break free from me?

My son is 13, soon to be 14, and it feels as if he is refusing to grow up. He remains attached to me and I feel awful when I tell him he needs to break free and become more independent. He seems to quiet down but reverts to the same needy state. He will not make decisions for himself and I am simply at a loss when he just sits around waiting for me to give him direction. HELP! Anyone have advice?

A Quarterly Publication for Single Parents & Step Parents

For years I've wanted to read a magazine that pertains to my personal lifestyle, like raising a child alone or dating tips for the single parent. And of course the other usual parenting tips and tricks that would serve any parent. After years of waiting, I decided I'd start one of my own. I've also decided to add helpful tips and stories for and from step parents since we don't always stay single forever. BTW, step parenting doesn't have to be a legal union either. The moment a single parent dates and brings that other adult into a child's life, a form of parenting begins to take place.

It's been a struggle since magazine's do not generate money the first couple of years so I work full-time and hope to keep growing until I can afford to break free on my own.
